I agree it looks like a civilian jacket that was adapted for military use. Maybe the allies thought the might of the landings would scare the Germans into surrendering so it wouldn’t be a prolonged campaign and the need for a more robust jacket was unnecessary 🤔 They did use these for training in Britain so must have known the drawbacks but after manufacturing millions they couldn’t just switch to a different pattern. The M43 is such a great design it’s too bad they didn’t have these then.
