I have a hunch there are quite a few “Elvis owned items” in people’s collections that are not authentic. At this point, I would be hesitant to purchase any item alledged to have been owned by Elvis without a rock solid way of connecting it to him. Not saying it has happened but money can be a strong motivating factor for someone to sign off on the authenticity of a valuable item. The other problem is if you’re buying something that was authenticated by someone who is now dead it may be hard to prove that person actually authenticated it. No doubt Elvis gave things away but sometimes it’s almost hard to believe the sheer number of items out there that Elvis allegedly gave away. With Graceland having the jacket and receipt it doesn’t look good for the authenticity of the one sold . I have a friend who was in regular contact with a member of the Memphis Mafia. This guy who has since passed would occasionally ask my friend if he wanted to buy some random items that were supposedly once owned by Elvis. Random things like a pocket knife. My friend never bought any because although they could have been authentic there was no way of proving they were other than this former Memphis Mafia members say so. It’s definitely a buyer beware when purchasing these type of items.
