I have that same ice jacket I got it in 2008 😮 never bought another north face jacket since. it has the red tag inside tho instead of the holographic one. I have a XXL size and it’s kinda heavy lol I like it tho, I only wear that and a shirt

I couldn’t agree more.. They now added another parka model line that is in 450$ range… which has the same down fill and quality of my old Mcmurdo parka… It’s sad to see they lower the quality year after year just to make more money…

I’m a gear junkie and I’ve been buying extreme mountain gear since 2005. When it comes to Parkas, Down Jackets, Shell jackets, mid layers, Insulated Pants, Shell Pants, Boots, Mitts, Etc., I have watched the quality go down year after year. I have a ridiculous amount of outdoor clothing gear so I can make an accurate assessment of the quality. Arc’teryx, North Face, Mountain Hardwear, Outdoor Research, Marmot, Black Diamond, Mammut, Descente, Patagonia and several others have all cut corners, lowered quality and reduced material to increase profit margins and to stay in the game. A few have remained somewhat neutral over the years, Peak Performance, Canada Goose, Norrona, Spyder, Baffin and other equipment manufacturers. Of course the cost increases with everything else. The best years for quality and price were, 2006 to 2010. After that, you can really see the difference. It’s not a bad idea to purchase older gear in mint condition if you can find it. They say even new, unused clothing fibers break down over time, but I’ve yet found that to be true. I just picked up a 2008 North Face “Ice Jacket” in mint condition. Thick and burly ! It sure blows away the new Gotham 3 Jacket. Good video, thanks for letting me rant. Cheers !
