For good or bad kanye did introduce “high fashion” to a whole new generation (myself included). This is probably the greatest thing the yeezy brand has done imo.

8:36 this is the exact reason why i love Yeezy so much, i was talking to a friend of mine recently and i told her this.. Kanye is totally free to create, we’re getting designs a 8 year old would think of and it’s socially accepted, i think this is so beautiful

It’s always struck me that Yeezy as a brand is torn between a least three different “lanes” of thinking, and while you can generally find overlaps between any pairing of two, there’s some kind of incompatibility of all three that makes for a lot of internal tension in the brand. I wonder at times if that’s why so many models get canceled, or delayed for years on end. The three “lanes” that I see are the biopunk organic-futurism thing (Foam Runners, 450, 700v3, 380, QNTM, Mono Pack, D-Rose, etc.), a kind of utilitarian brutalism (950, 1050, the Crepe Boot, the Crepe Sneaker, the Slides, the Scuba Shoe etc.), and lastly a kind of “modernized throwback” thing (700v1, 700v2, Powerphase, Air Yeezys, LVs, etc.). Any two can be blended, but mixing all three doesn’t really work. Like the 500 is throwback+biopunk, while the turrelliens look to be biopunk+brutalism.

For whatever it’s worth though, I’m always excited to see what the brand is going to do next, though.
