They only take the money you owe for the gas .. they dont take the full preauth amount lol. They just wanna make sure you have the money before you take the gas since you cant exactly put it back if you dont. It has effectively solved gas theft which sometimes involved gas attendants getting run over by the fleeing thieves’ cars.
