I noticed that you were already using WAGO connectors. Did you consider using these, instead of soldering the wires together?
Thanks 👍🏻
Hello. Does it also work with the Denali Smartcan ?
Great video. Do you know if it works with other makes of bike as I have a Triumph tiger 1200 rally pro and this work really well with this?
We all feel the cold differently but I suspect a heated jacket would quickly end up hanging in my cupboard. I swear by an original Norwegian fishing jumper which is both water resistant and windproof and keeps me very toasty despite being decades old! Ernest Shackleton would agree…Hadn’t appreciated the strain on the electrical system and that would make me nervous in the winter. Keep up the good work.
Thank for interesting vlogs! I have identical setup on my GS, although I use a Gerbing jacket, and Gerbing gloves. The gloves are connected to the jacket, but with separate heating control on the actual gloves. Question: Do you have heated gloves, and are this connected on the same supply controlled from the bike?
Paul, Daisy chaining the EZcan is easy. Just plug the ‘exit’ of the first excan in the input of the second en the exit of the second back into the bike. That is all. You need to configure them separately
I went back from this system to the controller because I found I wanted the flexibility of using separate grip heat to jacket heat. Rather than the 2 being fixed. Sometimes I wanted high grip heat and low jacket heat and vice versa.
What I did was make grip level 1 10%, which is basically to turn the jacket on with no grip heat.
Then Grip heat level 2-5 the % I wanted with the heated jacket output for these grip levels also 100% out put.(and control with the jacket controller)
I was hoping they had done a software upgrade so you could control the jacket heat level via the Wizz wheel like you can do with the light brightness.
I’ve done the same thing – I’ve got the gillet and find it too hot at 100%. Also, I find that I need my grips on 5 when it’s really cold. So, I’ve gone for 0%,20%,40%,60%,80% against 1,2,3,4,5, for the grips – absolutely delighted! 😊
In electrical installations the total current draw, if everything was switched on, would generally be well over the main fuse rating. Your house probably has a main fuse value of 60 or 100A, but if you totalled all of the individual MCB’s or RCBO’s it would be far higher than the fuse value. The term “diversity” is used, as it’d be incredibly rare for every circuit in your house to be drawing its maximum current allowance.
On your bike, the horn is 20A, but this would usually be a short burst, unless you are very angry, so taking away the short burst 20A, there is plenty of current available for the other accessories to run well within the ezCan range. The other thing to note is that maximum current will normally be provided for a specified timescale before the device shuts down (just like an MCB in your house). I think the ezCan is around 20 seconds… I think??? Just something to bear in mind before investing another £200 on an ezCAN.
Great solution!
I don’t have a BMW or an eZCAN but this got me wondering how hard it would be to wire in a simple variable resistor onto the bars to control the jacket. I have the Bluetooth controller so I can control the heat from my phone, but even that is far too much faff when underway. I know that other heated clothing brands have a remote adjuster that works with Bluetooth….it would be good if Keis came up with something similar.
